School Council

All government schools in Victoria have a school council.

They are legally-formed bodies that set the key direction for the school. Brunswick North Primary School has an active School Council where parents and teacher representatives work together to ensure positive outcomes for the school community.

Structure and purpose

Brunswick North Primary School has a council of twelve members including parents and school staff. It meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month during the school term.

School Council is responsible for developing the Annual Implementation Plan that sets out the schools goals and key improvement areas for the year; the school budget; educational policy; the physical appearance of the buildings and grounds; the Student Engagement and Wellbeing Policy which provides a safe and orderly environment for teaching and learning; and an Annual Report on the school’s achievements.

Elections

Elections for parent and teacher representatives are held in March each year. The call for nominations is published in our school newsletter.

Sub-committees

Parents are also encouraged to join School Council sub-committees for: Community & Engagement, Finance, Sustainability, Grounds and Educational Policy. Dates and times of meetings are published in the weekly newsletter.
